News channels have recently become hot property and are vying for attention along with other popular shows telecast on various channels. Every major broadcaster is home to at least one news channel. Software that can be used all hours of the day is the most difficult aspect when it comes to launching satellite channels. This is the reason newsgathering for 24-hour news channels is so crucial. To cater this task, the emerging digital channels have made an attempt to cover all the incidents regardless of place, location and time. These channels have not only changed the way Indian television broadcasts news, but also the format of news. Prior to the 1990s Doordarshan was the only newscast that could be heard on Indian television, and had also transformed the news programs into a dowdy exercise. Today, news is an important commodity, much like food as well as shelter and cloth. The most appealing feature of the news bulletins of today is their relevance with objectivity, high-quality editing and high-quality visuals. News has traveled quite a distance since the DD era. From local news to International events, breaking news to news analysis, television soap to page3 news, everything is under purview of news. In this article, we have covered some significant changes regarding news broadcasting in India before and after the Gulf War. This was the first satellite channel that broadcast the signal to the Indian subcontinent. Subhash Chandra launched Zee TV in October 1992. This is India's first Hindi channel that is privately owned. The channel was followed shortly by Sony and then local channels such as Eenadu and Asianet. Advertising was now the primary source of revenue and entertainment programmes were at the forefront of the organisation's strategies for programming. The initial mission of Doordarshan, to aid in economic and social development has been clearly diluted. Doordarshan was facing a fierce opposition in its news and public affairs programming with international channels such as BBC and CNN. Doordarshan was planning to offer some of the slots that were part of the news channel that was sponsored. In February 1995, NDTV becomes the country's first private producer of national news program 'News Tonight', which was broadcast on the government-owned television channel. Doordarshan established a new standard for Indian television due to its on-the-spot reporting with pertinent visuals. In the same year, TV Today Network occupied an hour-long slot on the DD Metro channel and aired a Hindi as well as a current affairs show "Aaj Tak". This programme became popular due to its extensive coverage and unique style presentation by Late S. P. Major Players The monopoly of Doordarshan was ended in 1992, when private television channels entered the Indian boundaries and entertained the viewers in the most entertaining way. At the start of the 1990s, the private channels aired only entertainment programs. The entertainment programming included family drama, comedy serials, children's programs, movies, cartoons talk shows, recipes shows, musical concerts and non-fiction programs, among others. Private entertainment channels have added infortainment programmes to their Fixed Point Charts (FPC). In keeping the growing demand for infotainment programmes in mind, the media houses started to produce news magazines, entertainment magazines, and news programs for various channels. India's premier commercial and consumer news broadcaster and a leading content producer for media, Television Eighteen India Limited (TV18) created India's first ever entertainment magazine called 'The India Show which was aired on Star Plus in 1993. This media powerhouse could provide prime-time TV programming to almost all Indian satellite channels that include Star Plus, Sony Entertainment Television and Zee. TV18 also produced the weekly India Business Report, a business news show that was broadcast by BBC World. Indian viewers had very few options (like public service broadcaster Doordarshan, BBC and CNN) to view the television news. To view televised news, viewers needed to tune into Dordarshan or other news channels like BBC and CNN. Zee Television launched Zee News as a news channel in 1995, to offer more news and information. This News and the current affairs channel changed the method of delivering news to viewers. Zee News was founded in 1998 and has worked to become the fastest news channel and achieves the same aim: Sabse Pahle (always first). Star News, a Murdoch-owned news channel, was the second 24/7 news channel. It launched in 1998. Star made a contract for five years with Prannoy Roy's NDTV (New Delhi Television Company) to offer news content for this news channel.
